Vance: Hello Dave, Thank you for taking the time with BornBinary for an interview. The Halloween season was coming up pretty quick and you seemed like the right person to talk to!

Dave: Happy to talk with you.

Vance: How long have you been creating art? Did you have a major influence when you were a child?

Dave: I have no memory of NEVER drawing or doodling. Back in grade school, although my parents loved seeing A's in art class on my report card year after year, seeing a few less C's and D's in other classes would of made them really happy. My biggest artistic influence as a kid was being kidnapped by a horde of starving cannibalistic nomads on a family vacation. I was lucky they ate my siblings first because I learned in that time before they got to me, that they were mute and deaf and I could entertain them with my doodling on the blood stained pit walls.

Vance: Were you creepy as a child? Come on it’s a valid question!

Dave: It is and yes, I was. When I was a kid, loving sci-fi, horror and fantasy stuff was not as accepted and "geek cool" as it is now.Back then, I was a social outcast looking out at the world from my small basement window as I built Star Wars model kits. On second thought, maybe I just thought myself an outcast and it was the other kids just seeing my face peering out the basement window that made me the "creepy kid"?

Vance: Para Abnormal is a blend of horror and fun twisted humor. What has been your inspiration for your creations?

Dave: My best inspiration comes from everyday life, but putting a paranormal "what if" spin on it. I try to see the mundane with a Twilight Zone ending.

Vance: Your props are amazing and Halloween seems to be a happening time around your house, are any other holidays this big for you? Were you always into horror and Halloween?

Dave: Always loved Halloween, but Christmas is another great opportunity to be creative. I especially love creating things using some really low budget prop making tricks I know and dumping those creations on people and calling them "presents".

Vance: Do you still dress up for Halloween? If so what are you going to be this year?

Dave: I do, but my attorney suggests I just go without a costume this year until last year's silly Halloween misunderstanding between me and some witness to a multiple homicide is sorted out by the D.A.''s office.

Vance: What is your favorite horror movie?

Dave: Mona Lisa Smile

Vance: Do you have a favorite type that you create? Pirates, ghosts or polar bears?

Dave: I prefer ghostly pirate bears. Actually, that's a tough one to answer. Each character has a particular thing about them I like. Many of them are still finding their true personalities as I go along, but that's part of the fun I have in creating the comic. My favorites so far that I'm looking forward to expanding on are Nessie, Yeti and the suburban Ghost Pirate. The bitter Candy Corn and the Maniacal Trick 'r Treaters are going to get more developed this October.

Vance: Your impressive resume shows off a lot that you have accomplished. What has been your most favorite creation of all time, whether it was a set design, a drawing or prop?

Dave: I'm really lucky to have survived by just creating stuff for a living. There is no one favorite creation. All have been a sort of learning road side attraction that I buy a skill souvenir from and then continue down the creative highway to the next exit project. All my creations have a story which makes selecting portfolio pieces difficult because I need to question if it is my best work or just something I like because of the experience of creating it.

Vance: This is a question I ask everyone, Star Wars or Star Trek?

Dave: I've always thought that Flash Gordon was the landlord of the building that Star Trek rented an apartment from that then took Star Wars in as a roommate who hosted a party that girls actually showed up for.

Vance:Other than creating art what else do you like to do?

Dave: Comment on Mona Lisa Smile web forums.

Vance: What was your worst non art job ever?

Dave: One morning I helped my Dad pick up the dog poop in the backyard, he was so excited that I had accomplished something that month he offered to pay me to do it everyday.

Vance: What are you goals and plans in the future for Para Abnormal?

Dave: For it to die in obscurity while I complain about people who sell out by making money off their art.
